Carpet spotters are concentrated chemicals designed for localized stains and contamination. The correct product depends on what caused the stain, how long it has been present, the carpet fiber, the backing and installation method, and whether previous chemicals have already been applied.
Using the wrong spotter can spread the stain, leave sticky residue, alter carpet color, damage adhesive, set protein contamination, or make permanent damage more visible.
