    Battery chargers are critical to equipment performance, safety, and battery life. Chargers must match the battery type, voltage, and charging profile specified by the equipment manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can shorten battery life or void warranty coverage.

    Common Charger Types

    • Onboard chargers: permanently installed on the machine and designed for specific battery configurations.
    • Offboard chargers: external chargers connected to the battery pack for charging.

    Battery Chemistry Matters

    • Wet (Flooded) Lead Acid: requires a specific charging profile and ventilation.
    • AGM Batteries: sealed batteries that use a different voltage and charging curve than wet cells.
    • Lithium Batteries: require charger compatibility with the battery management system (BMS). Voltage, communication protocol, and manufacturer approval are critical.

    OEM vs Aftermarket Chargers

    • OEM chargers: designed specifically for the machine and battery system. Recommended to maintain warranty coverage and long-term reliability.
    • Aftermarket chargers: may be suitable in select applications when voltage, battery chemistry, and connector type are confirmed.
